RS-485 communication cable can be twisted pair in general occasions, but twisted pair cable with shielding layer can be used in the environment with high requirements. When RS485 communication is used, for a specific transmission line, the cable length from the host (call test equipment) to the 485 port of the instrument is inversely proportional to the baud rate of data signal transmission; This length is mainly affected by signal distortion and noise. Theoretically, the transmission distance of RS485 can reach 1200 meters, but in practical application, the transmission distance should be less than 1200 meters. The specific length is affected by the surrounding environment.

Construction

24 AWG stranded (7×32) tined copper conductors,polyethylene insulation,twisted par, overall (100%coverage)+ TC braid shied (80%coveroge), 24 AWG stranded Tc drain wire, LSZH jacket.

RS485 fieldbus has a characteristic impedance of 120 ohms. The conductor is stranded by 2 * 2 * 24awg multi strand tinned electrolytic copper wire. The decor insulating sheath is suitable for installation and identification. The aluminum foil / polyester tape is 100% shielded. An independent multi strand tinned copper wire grounding conductor is added. The outer sheath is industrial gray PVC, and the color of the outer sheath is optional.

Armored twisted pair shielded cable astp-120 Ω (for RS485 & can) one pair 18 AWG, with an outer diameter of about 12.3mm. It can be used in places with serious interference, frequent rat damage and lightning protection and explosion-proof requirements. When in use, it is recommended that both ends of the armor layer be grounded and one end of the inner shielding layer be grounded!

Stp-100 Ω (for FF & Profibus-PA) one pair 18 AWG twisted pair shielded cable with sexual impedance of 100 Ω is applied to FF and Profibus-PA buses, and 18awg conductor is commonly used.
