1. Applications
This specification describes single conductor polyvinylchloride (PVC) insulated, 600-volt dual-rated type TW/THW. It is intended for the ground wire and other general-purpose power wiring. It is suitable for lighting and power in residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

THW wire– Indicates a single conductor having flame-retardant, moisture, and heat-resistant thermoplastic insulation. The wire is rated 75°C wet or dry. THW cable and wires are used generally in building wiring, feeder and branch circuits, and internal secondary industrial distribution.

TW wire– Indicates a single conductor having flame-retardant, moisture-resistant thermoplastic insulation. The wire is rated 60°C wet or dry. TW cable and wires are used generally in building wiring, feeder and branch circuits, and internal secondary industrial distribution.

"T" stands for thermoplastic insulation covering the wire itself.
"H" stands for heat resistance of the insulation max 167°F.
"HH" stands for heat resistance but increased max 194°F.
"W" is for moisture resistance.
"N" is for a nylon coating that makes the insulation oil and gas resistant.

2. Construction
The single copper conductors shall be solid or stranded annealed or hard uncoated copper.
The conductor shall be insulated with PVC as specified and applied tightly to the conductor in a concentric manner.
