cast iron have good heat resistance; used as chromium-containing raw materials for the production of silicon-chromium alloys and medium,

low, and micro-carbon ferrochromium by slag-free method; used as chromium-containing raw materials for the production of metallic

chromium by electrolysis; used for oxygen blowing Method for smelting stainless steel raw materials.

The smelting methods of high-carbon ferrochrome include blast furnace method, electric furnace method, plasma furnace method, etc. Only

special pig iron with a chromium content of about 30% can be produced by using a blast furnace. As of 2012, most high-carbon

ferrochromium with high chromium content is smelted in submerged arc furnaces by flux method.

      The basic principle of electric furnace smelting high-carbon ferrochrome is to reduce the oxides of chromium and iron in chromium ore

with carbon. The starting temperature of reducing chromium oxide to Cr2C2 by carbon is 1373K, the starting temperature of forming Cr7C3

is 1403K, and the starting temperature of reducing to chromium is 1523K, so when carbon reduces chromium ore, chromium carbides are

obtained instead of metallic chromium. . The amount of carbon in ferrochrome depends on the reaction temperature. It is easier to generate

carbides with high carbon content than those with low carbon content.
